oo July 27, 1973 Dr. Dorothy T. Krieger Department of Medicine Mount Sinai School of Medicine of the City University of New York 5th Avenue and 100th Street New York, New York 10029 Dear Dr. Krieger, You honor me by inviting me to give the Berson Memorial Lecture. I did not know him personally and I am gratified to hear that he knew of me in the way implied by your letter. Unfortunately, the forth- coming year is one that I expect to be unusually difficult in the light of accumulated commitments and I conclude that it would really be unwise for me to accept your very gracious invitation despite all of the sentimental motives that might lead me to accept. Perhaps some future year might be more acconmodating to all of us. I am glad that you did identify yourself, so that I could connect you with the Dorothy I knew thirty years ago. I am glad that thread of acquaintanceship has been restored. If it is not too much trouble, I wonder if you would be able to send me a few of your writings or other material that would let me know how you have been occupying yourself. I am glad to see that you are in academic work and have a distinguished position in it; not that I would have had any other expectations from the time I did know you better. Sincerely yours, Joshua Lederberg Professor of Genetics JL/rr Depcrre | ee a yy Bayonet | RADA AH
