Dear Senator Javits:

I am delighted you attended the reception given by
Governor and Mrs. Harriman last week in honor of The
Rockefeller University. It was a very special occasion for
the University, and we thank you for being part of it.

I hope we were able both to encourage your interest in
the University and to direct your attention to some of today's
most pressing biomedical research issues. For your further
information, I have enclosed a copy of my annual report which
offers perspectives on the current state of the University, as
well as a description of our future priorities. Throughout
the report, we have highlighted several major research pro-
grams as examples of the range of our activity, and I think
you may find these of particular interest.

We are happy to share this information with you. I
welcome any questions you might have and would be glad to
provide additional information on any aspect of our work.

My colleagues and I urge you to accept our invitation to
visit the campus whenever you are in New York. We would enjoy
the opportunity to give you a tour of the campus and show you
something of our work firsthand.
