Dear Mr. Jaeschke:

Before expressing our appreciation for Stauffer's grant in.
support of the Life Sciences and Public Policy Program, I want
to tell you how much my colleagues and I appreciated the oppor-
tunity to meet recently with you, Dr. Mickley, and your associates
at the company's Westport headquarters. I found it a most helpful
session and very much enjoyed our discussion on a wide range of
issues of mutual interest and concern.

We are pleased that Stauffer has become a partner in sup-
porting the Life Sciences and Public Policy Program and it was
tnoughtful of you to present me with the check following our
luncheon. We are encouraged by indications of continuing progress
in the development of the program and look forward to Bill
Lowrance's arrival this summer.

I regret that it will not be possible for me to attend my
first meeting of the CIIT Board on March 5 but as Pat Garvey
indicated on the phone, I must participate in a particularly im-
portant all-day meeting on the campus that day. We are arranging
to take advantage of your kind offer to have someone from the
University stand in for me on this occasion.
