Hubbard, Jr. bec ' VO Kotte, The Upjohn company we be Uf f ] oh, Cony Kalamazoo, Michigan 49001 é Dear Bill: . Mathaod [Covey Josh Lederberg mentioned recent_, c..u. a. was uve sure whether he had sent you a copy of a recent progress report we submitted to the Rockefeller Foundation covering a University-wide program in reproductive biology. So we have sent one under separate cover. In case you have already received this, please forgive the redundancy. Josh and I think you may find a number of the activities in reproductive biology to be of personal interest to you and professional, corporate interest to your associates at Upjohn. Along a Similar line, I have sent a copy of our just-published Scientific and Educational Programs for 1979-80. This document con- stitutes, in effect, our catalogue for next year as well as a progress report on the research last year in all of our laboratories. Of course, if you would like to follow-up in more detail on any of the topics mentioned in the documents, give us a ring. Finally I know that you and Josh have discussed work in comparative toxicology. We hope that we also can come back to this subject with you. before the end of this year. Josh's new seminar--along with several possible initiatives we are exploring--may make it possible for us to add sharper focus on this critical field. On an entirely different subject--one that we have discussed briefly at BOSTID meetings--I have enclosed a copy of a short paper I was asked to prepare a few months ago in which I assessed the prospects for the meetings in Vienna next month. You will see that I am not too hopeful in the short term. Nonetheless, the problems are so pressing and the stakes for the U.S. are so large in the long run, as you know, that we must sustain our efforts. Best regards. Sincerely, Ket! nn Rodney W.
