Memorandum

TO: Mr. Ray F. Carmichael

FROM: Dr. Joshua Lederberg

Thank you for the information on Dr. Hubbard.
I met him recently at a committee meeting of the
IOM and I was interested to hear how many ways he
had views on the intersection of academic and in-
dustrial responsibilities that coincided with my
own. Now that I see his background I should hardly
be surprised.

I will doubtless have other opportunities to
pursue that dialogue; but it might help me to be in-
formed about the Upjohn Company's general position
with respect to support of academic institutions.
And of course if we have had any other dealing with
the company or with other major figures in the or-
ganization I should know that too. .
