Dear Dr. Lederberg,

Your letter concerning your appointment of or. Martin
Carter prompted me to mention in addition, although I didn't
wish to mix it in with a letter concerning him, the fact
that I have been coming into New York on regular occasions
recently to do collaborative work with Dr. James German of
the New York Blood Center. He suggested that I stop by to
see you one time when I was in New York and unfortunately I
did not have time recently to notify you of my visit and try
to see you.

I will be in New York during the week of the 5th to the
12th of December and hope that if there is opportunity I
could pay a brief visit with you. The stimulus = and
encouragement that you gave me ten or more years ago in
studying xeroderma pigmentosum was greatly appreciated at
that time and this has been a continuing subject of interest
ever since, and has in fact become my full-time project. My
collaborations with James German are involving some clinical
investigations in xeroderma we are doing as a field study in
Egypt. I anticipate coming into New York at fairly regular
intervals so if the time that I am next coming is unsuitable
there may be another opportunity.
