This convocation to be held on February 11 and 12, 1981, will be the highlight of nine days of activities to inaugurate the David L. Lawrence Convention and Exposition Center. We would be honored if you would attend. Five of your colleagues have agreed to make formal presentations at the Center on Thursday, February 12. The Nobel Prize winners and their topics are the following: Hans A. Bethe, Physics (1967), "The Energy Problem"; Saul Bellow, Literature (1976), "Culture and Creativity in Present-Day America"; William N. Lipscomb, Chemistry (1976), "Some of the Aesthetic Aspects of Seience"; Arthur Kornberg, Medicine (1959), ,"Confluence of the Medical Sciences"; and, Theodore W. Schultz, Economics (1979), "Economic Distortion by the International Donor Community". A formal luncheon will be held on February 12, with a special ceremony honoring all Nobel Prize Winners in attendance. A more intimate reception and dinner is scheduled for Wednesday evening, February 11, for the Nobel Laureates, leading members of the local academic community and a few special guests. In addition, seminars and colloquia will be arranged by several of the universities and colleges in the area in order to take advantage of this unique opportunity for intellectual exchanges. WQED-TV, the local Public Broadcasting System outlet, has expressed considerable interest in producing a program involving the Nobel laureates. Both national and local media coverage will be extensive.
