Commonplace Note - October 31, 1978 Dick Couper came here for lunch. No specific agenda. Lively discussion of the role and sig- nificance of the New York City Library system and its history. He had previously taught history at Hamilton College. He was somewhat preoccupied with the logo that should be established and I tried to discourage him from using the lion rather than the lamp motif. He described the Outreach Program of the Library and the difficulties that they have in persuading ethnic communities to regard them as the kind of resource with which I was so personally familiar myself. He will be sending me materials on the organization and functions of the system. He also referred me to Professor Wade in Urban History whom he felt knew most about the social history of the library system. I had met him yesterday for the first time at the Archive Center. I am sure that there is some background agenda that was not quite ready to discuss as yet. Is he a member of the RU Library Council? Would he have any useful role on the Board? .He obviously could be quite helpful to us in our thinking about regional medical library facility. This may be redundant but Halsey Royden dropped in and recommended the name of George not Charles Frankel for advice on the Vice President for Faculty Affairs.
