This collaboration has already produced a considerable number of important results. The scientific program is very fertile and we hope that every effort will be made from the Italian side for continuing this collaboration. Quite a number of Italian scientists from Pavia have come to Stanford and American researchers have spent time in Pavia. As an example, at this very moment there are five scientists from the Depart- ment of Genetics of Pavia working here at Stanford, and two more have spent periods of various length during the year 1971. During the same year, two researchers from Stanford have been in Pavia, and four more will be coming in 1972. I have asked Professor Ciferri to convey to you personally our gratitude for this opportunity. Yours sincerely, oshua Lederberg Professor of Genetics LT. J. P. KENNEDY, JR.
