Could I impose on you for a moment's thought -- which drug companies (not necessarily Merck) might be sufficiently interested in polypeptide antibiotics/anticancer to gamble even a few thousand dollars support for her? She was "approved but not funded" by NIH; and in my view is underrated both by NIH and her peers here. You may know her as one of Ed Tatum's proteges -- (She discovered edeine).
