OFFICE MEMORANDUM ® STANFORD UNIVERSITY Date: July 7, 1960 To . File From SuBJECT: Seminar given by Dr. Sydney Brenner _ He tried to corrolate the entry of new Pzo into newly synthesized RNA of phage infected bacteria. His principal finding was that the P 2 which was introduced after phage infection was still associated with RNA of a density corresponding to that that was synthesized in the pre-infected bacteria. This he considers to support the hypothesis that the new component in phage infected bacteria is a minor addition, so-called X RNA, to the preexistent ribosome the bulk of which is concerned with structural or other functions.
