Hamilton National Center for Analysis of Energy Systems oy tt Brookhaven National Laboratory : DS OF typ eee Associated University, Inc. a Upton, New York 11973 Dear Leonard: Having tried to reach you by phone and learning that you will be in Europe until mid-May, I am writing on behalf of Josh and the University to say that we are now prepared to move ahead with planning more care- fully for the allocation of at least two offices for the staff of your proposed International Scientific Committee on Energy, Health, and the Environment. We are still very short on space, but there are now several new options for assigning small pockets of space for office use of the type you have in mind. Thus, we would like to discuss your plans on an updated basis and then move ahead as rapidly as feasible. If you and your associates were willing to move around here once or twice during the next year, it would be possible to accommodate you very quickly. If you would prefer to come into an essentially permanent location, we might have to wait for a few months. * I am sure that we can work out an appropriate financial arrangement to recognize the costs associated with maintaining whatever space may be allocated. I believe we can assist in at least some of the other administrative tasks you mentioned regarding the disbursement of funds on behalf of the Committee. Our vice president and controller, David Lyons, is an extremely able professional who will be involved in the administrative and financial arrangement in any case--and he could assist you in establishing an efficient system for your logistics. Let us get together again soon and go over your updated plans and needs. Best regards. Sincerely, fis. Nichols Executive Vice President Dr. L. D. Hamilton 4 May 1979 - 2 - cc: resident Joshua Lederberg Mr. David Lyons Dr. Richard Young P.S. - Dr. Richard Young will be joining the Office of the President within the next month or two, and Josh and I believe it would be extremely useful for him to be involved in the initial stage of our discussions, since he may be a principal participant from the University in the work of the Committee.
