THE ROCKEFELLER UNIVERSITY Hamed Ten, aw. 1230 YORK AVENUE -NEW YORK, NEW YORK 10021 OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT July 18, 1978 Dr. L.D. Hamilton National Center for Analysis of Energy Systems Brookhaven National Laboratory Upton, New York 11973 Dear Leonard: Thank you for your letter of July 12 and bringing me up-to-date on the progress of your international scientific committee. I am sorry to learn you have gotten such a runaround at D.0.E. but I do hope that you may have better luck in the next few months. I have not had time as yet to go over the documents you have included; and my schedule is sufficiently hectic that I thought I had better acknowledge the spirit of the letter and defer, to when I can, a more detailed reply. I will be spending the next few weeks closing up, moving, and getting settled in;and I did not want to take the chance of loosing the thread of our communication. I am certainly just as enthusiastic as ever about the possibility of a congenial location for your committee's staff work and will certainly do all that I can to look about for a location on the University campus,if there is anyway that can be arranged. If anything the deferral in your own timing may make it a little easier to locate possible opportunities. If there are any further programatic developments on your side I certainly hope to hear from you; otherwise the initiative should be for me to respond with any comments that I may have on the draft that you sent me. Yours sincerely, J@&shua Lederberg JL/ge. Lec R. Nichols
