Dear Hanna:

Having been accustomed to the familiar representa-
tions of John D. Rockefeller at an age that most of us
would be in dotage, I was pleasantly surprised to find
a portrait that had been executed by Eastman Johnson in
1895. This reflects a character showing some of the
vigor that, whatever else might be said, can hardly be
denied to the life and career of the founder of both of
our institutions!

I was so taken with it that I requested that a photo-
graph be made of the detail of the bust and I am sending
On a copy in the confident belief that it would be of
some interest to you as well.

The portrait now hangs at the Rockefeller Archive
Center (which is operated by the Rockefeller University):
at Pocantico Hills. As a historian, you surely would be
interested in this project and I am enclosing a brochure
for whatever interest it may have for you and perhaps some
of your colleagues.

I am sorry to have missed the last couple of meetings
of the Board: but if there is nothing else to continue to
bind us I hope to see you there more frequently in the
future.

My situation here has met all expectations; and I
certainly wish the same for you. ,
