Garfield VW The Rockefeller Foundation 1133 Avenue of the Americas New York, New York 10036 Dear Ms. Garfield: As my colleague Rod Nichols, our executive vice president, explained to you on the telephone on December 8, | was glad to receive your inquiry of December 3 regarding Dr. Anthony Cerami's request to use the confer- ence facilities at Bellagio for a meeting on "the Design of Antiparasitic Drugs." Dr. Cerami has an excellent record in bringing together first-rank individuals and charting imaginative paths. An original and productive investigator, he has become extremely interested recently in bringing modern biochemistry to bear on the process of developing better solutions to the problems around the world posed by the so called tropical di- seases. Although | am not familiar in detail with his plans for this meeting, the overall outline is solid and the expected participants are excellent. Accordingly, | am delighted to endorse the proposal. Hoping very much that the Foundation will be able to facilitate this extremely important initiative, please do not hesitate to*call upon me if you need further information. i ly, 2. gin ere ¥ Que Joshua Lederberg President cc: Rodney W.
