Dear Dr. Lederberg

Mother has asked me to write to you, as she cannot do so herself
just now. She and I would like you to know how much we appreciate your
early message of sympathy over our recent loss.

4 months have passed since his death. But even now I can't
understand why he has gone, I can't believe that someone with so much
enthusiasm, hard will can die. I had been sure that he would recover and
be back on research, but...

My father always said to me that it was only after the intensive
training as your postdoc that he had gained self-confidence.He also told
me that it was from you that he learned what is science and how to be a
good scientist.You were always, and the only professor for him he
respected from the bottom of his heart.I wish to express my hearty
thanks for your favors and patronage rendered to my father during his
lifetime.
