November 20, 1965 Professor J. Lederberg Genetics Department Stanford University School of Medicine Palo Alto, California Dear Joshua-sensei: Thank you very much for your letter of October 29, 1965. I would very much like to have a certain position to continue my study on F factor, and I am grateful if you could let me have the possible opportunity. As for my schedule, I rather wish to extend in staying here for another year, which make me possible to have enough time to wait until a suitable position become available, and at any time, I would like to travel to U.S. during the stay to find the opportunity. Is it possible to obtain the travel fellowship from somewhere? Dr. J. Davies who is spending one year at Pasteur told me that he has been appointed by the University of Wisconsin (Department of Biochem.), and where the Molecular Biology Department is going to be built, and Dr. M. Nomura of the Genetics Department will move to the new Department. He told me that the Department of Genetics is looking for a possible person after him. [written in right margin in different handwriting, HIROTA, Y.] [END PAGE ONE] [BEGIN PAGE TWO] November 20, 1965 I will meet with Prof. E. A. Adelberg staying at GIF., and should I ask the research position at Yale? I met with Prof. N. Morton at Hawaii, and he had been constructing his new genetics building there, and he was very happy for the work. With very best regards. Sincerely yours, Yukinori Hirota
