Dear Ole,

This is just to remind you to please send me the reference,
or reprint copy, of the paper that you mentioned that deals with
theoretical limits on bacterial growth rates. If you do know of
published references to doubling times of bacteria bbasides a review
by Tom Brock, I would be grateful to you for it.

I guess I do not even want to begin to start a discussion of the
Asilomar Conference which was one of the most complex enterprises any
of us has been involved in. I guess after Sleeping on it, I wish I had
taken a more example setting stand than I did and which is of course ny
actual intention in the laboratory. It really would have been very simple
to suggest that without quibbling about the actual level of biohazard that
we all commit ourselves at the very minimum to the use of newly constructed
safer vectors on top of the obvious requirement for the improvement in

the standards of laboratory hygiene that I think others have much to catch
up upon,
