Dear Professor Lederberg:

Thank you for your recent communication regarding the
Administration's proposed withdrawal of support for NIH trainee-
ships. I believe this to be an extremely shortsighted position.

I have enclosed a copy of a recent address I delivered
at the annual meeting of the Federation for Clinical Research
in Boston, which clearly states my views concerning this policy.

I will continue to do all I can to mitigate this policy
by the Administration toward biomedical research. I hope you
will continue to keep those of us in Congress current with regard
to your views.
