Dr. Igor N. Asheshov New York Botanical Gusdans Bronx 58, N.Y. Dear Dr. Asheshov: For some time I have been looking, without success, for information concerning the flagellar phages (Salmonella typhi and poona) reported soms years ago by Boulgakov & Sertic, and Rakieten & Bornstein, Rak. himself had to let those cultures go when we left for military service. Is there any chance that you would know anything about these peculiar creatures, and especially where they may have been preserved? Some people hase been dubious about the credibility of their flagellaxz specificity. They would be especially pertinent to some work we are doing now in Salmonella genetics. The last time I saw Kavanagh, he mentioned your program of antivirotics. I talked with him briefly about the applicability of some of these agents to "curing" bacteria of their latent or lysogenic phages. This is something my wife is particularly concerned with. Do you think some experiments alomg these lines might be worth starting? Yours sincerely, ยป Jobhua Lederberg Associate: Professor of Genetics ae a
