Sunday's papers carried an announcement of your appointment at Santa
Cruz, which I think deserves congratulations on all sides.

I can remember your urging me to come East, and hope you will now learn

the basis of my own enthusiasms in the other direction. But 1@ my own
experience can be any basis don't expect to be able to relax in the West!
There is still a pioneering approach to almost every aspect of living in
California; but I am sure you would prefer constant challenge to complacency.

In any event, we welcome your coming, look forward to seeing you, and offer
all best wishes on the successful development of an exciting program.
