THE ROCKEFELLER UNIVERSITY 1230 YORK AVENUE NEW YORK, NY 10021 February 26, 1985 TOSHUA LEDERBERG PRESIDENT Mr. Spyros Andreopoulos Office of Communications Stanford University Medical Center Stanford, California 94305 Dear Spyros: I have one more favor to ask of you. From time to time I'm using Fred Terman as an examplar of the development of university industrial relationships as a foundation for important regional economic development. Ina small way I'm trying to do something similar here in NYC. Quite a few folks here never heard of Terman, so I wonder if there is any written biographic material that could help me explain his role in the development of Stanford and of Silicon Valley. Any- thing from a newsclip to a book could be quite helpful. While we're at that, do you think there is material (in the newsclip file or other public record!) about Terman's personal relationships as consultant, or director, or investor, or what- ever in the California firms -- a matter that comes up here in connection with the appropriate place of a university officer in industrial development. I have Fred in mind as a very positive example. Please don't get these two requests confused and the first thing I asked of you would have the higher priority. Last summer or fall there was some thought of your coming through NY. If you have any trips in the offing please keep in mind to visit with us. Yours sincerely, a Lederberg Encl.
