Dear Alex:

I am going to impose on you to take a quick look at some
of the very practically oriented research that Ernst Friedheim
has been doing in tropical medicine: specifically a one dose
prophylactic/therapeutic answer to the threats of sleeping
sickness and filariasis in Africa.

Friedheim is one of the great pioneers -~ following almost
directly on Paul Erhlich! -- in the practical development of
these chemotherapeutic approaches. He has made many important
advances in the past and this current proposal may be one of
comparable importance. It has a great deal to do with the
engineering of release rates of the drug. So l thought that
your company's technical expertise, coupled with your own
compassion for the victims of these parasites, could help
bring about the most efficacious reduction to practice.

I will be in Palo Alto during the month of August and hope
that I may find you in town during at least part of that time |
so that we might renew our old acquaintanceship and perhaps
discuss this and other specific proposals.
