Dear Mr. Rockefeller:

I am glad to have had a couple of chances to talk to you personally
about my own visions for the University and for the solidification of the
common interests of the 68th street cluster of institutions for medical
research, care, and education. Lew Thomas can corroborate the priority
I have been giving to these concerns even before I was "in office." I
intend to make them the central theme of the installation ceremony on
October 16, which I very much hope you can attend.

The letter enclosed is one that I have addressed to a number of
friends of the University whom I have not yet had a chance to meet.
While I believe it covers some of the same ground as our conversations,
I thought you might wish to see the actual text.
