We are pleased to inform you that Allen G, Marr has
applied for a pre-doctorate Research Fellowship from the Public Health
Service for research studies in bacteriology under the sponsorship
of Dre Je Be Wilson He has given your name as a
reference. oO

From its inception, the Research Fellowship program has had as its major aim
the support of promising young investigators in the medical and allied sciences.
It has been our belief that through this program a substantial increase in the
number of highly qualified scientific research workers would arise who would later
be leaders in their chosen fields. All Research Fellowship applications are
selected .in the face of severe competition of national proportions.

The Fellowship Boards will be greatly interested in your opinion of the
candidate's qualifications in the following categories:

(1) Research ability and promise of future research development;

(2) Originality of ideas;

(3) Adequacy of the applicant's professional background;

(4) Personality as a factor significantly influencing research promise;

(5) Any pertinent facts concerning the applicant that, in your opinion, will
aid the Boards in forming their decisions.

(6) On the basis of your knowledge of the character and loyalty of the in-
dividual to the Government of the United States, do you recommend
the applicant for a Research Fellowship from the Public Health
Service?
