March 31, 1955 Dear Joe: Just after sending off a couple of records, I remembered an article by Routden and Finlay in Bact. Revs. (June 1952). The review goes into many aspects that I had touched on before, ani by and large in an intel- digent way. Is this article the best clue to current practice? They seen to be sensitive to som of the same angles you have brought up; it is harder to tell how far they are put inte practice. The one arena where your competitors are probably weakest is in genetics, and even there a purely empirical appreech, at the present state of the art, may be alma. st as productive as a more sophisticated one. If you know of any other literature along these lines that would enlarge my own background, so let me know. Yours sincerely, Joshua Lederberg
