Dear Dr. Ben-Shahar:

What a pleasure and honor it was to receive your communi-
cation of February 6 indicating the award by Tel-Aviv University
of the degree Ph.D. Honoris Causa.

It would give me the greatest pleasure to accept. I regret
that the convocational schedules of your university and mine
tend to conflict; and for that reason it may be necessary to try
to identify another time, besides the month of June, during
which that award can be conferred.

I hope I may take the liberty of volunteering to you any
prospective occasions when I may anticipate being in Israel, and
especially for a more leisurely visit.

Please communicate my gratitude to your faculty for this
great honor. I regret only that my parents -- who were born and

died in Israel’ -- did not themselves survive to be able to share
the joy of the occasion.
