Dear Joshua:

Thank you for your letter of
February 14. I am indeed sorry that you cannot be with us
for the Colloquium on May 23, and I appreciate your under-
standing that the Colloquium and the honorary degree are
closely linked.

Under the circumstances, I believe,
as you suggested, that we should postpone the degree award to a
future commencement. I am sure I need not tell you that when
that time comes we will count it a very great honor to present
you with an honorary degree from Rutgers.
