Dear David:

Thank you so much for extending yourself on my behalf,
and making it possible for me to attend the dinner with the
Trilateral Commission. The occasion made it possible for me
to catch up with Bob McNamara for an extended discussion to
which I had been looking forward; and of course the presen-
tation by Mac Bundy was on a matter of a very deep general
and personal interest. In fact I was in Washington spending
two days at the Pentagon on matters not very far removed
‘therefrom.

I do hope that your responding to my request did not put
you in any embarrassment, and again my thanks to you for hav-
ing made possible a most interesting and productive evening:
