In accordance with our discussion, I would like to invite you to serve as a
member of the Roche Institute's Board of Scientific Advisors. The Board is com-
posed of distinguished scientists from a variety of disciplines who participate
in the review of the Institute's research programs and other activities. For
your information, I am enclosing a list of our past and present Board Members
as well as several other items which may be of interest to you.

As a member, you would be consulted on matters relating to Institute research
and be asked. to attend the annual two-three day meeting of the Board which is held
at the Institute. The term of your appointment would be three years beginning
January 1981, for which you would recieve an annual honorarium of $2,500 plus
travel expenses.

I sincerely hope you will accept this invitation and will plan to attend our
next annual meeting scheduled for May 14, 15 and 16 (a.m.), 1981.
