Dear Dr. Rhodes:

Your letter of January 30 was most #telcome, indeed, precisely with

its emphasis on relationships across 68th Street. With ratherly

new leadership at each of the institutions around that corner, I

agree that it is indeed a propitious occasion to find ways to
strengthen the ties and maximize the benefits of working as a community
on related problems, each from a particular perspective.

As I will not be moving to New York from California until September 1,
there may be a catch as catch can quality to efforts to meet jointly

in New York prior to that time. I suspect that our discussions would
be concretely most useful some few months thereafter when I have had
the opportunity to be better educated about this new role. However,

I would certainly wish to hasten any occasiv.. “or personal meeting and
the development of acquaintanceship and as my calendar of visits
crystalizes, perhaps there will be a happy coincidence. If you are
planning to be in New York City during the week of April 24 or the
week of May 15, and at a time that does not conflict with board
committee meetings at Rockefeller University, we might have a lucky
break. There is a possibility that I will be in New York the afternoon
of Friday, March 16, but I am not yet in full control of that contingency.

I very much appreciate your writing and look forward to the opportunity
of meeting you and initiating exactly the kind of relationship you

mentioned.
