Dear Dr. Poirier:

Please accept my apologies for the delay in responding to your
letter of August 6, 1979. During this period, the Rockefeller
University administration has been considering ways in which to
authorize my study of Cyclomunin without conflicting with existing
policies. Administrative approval has now been granted.

Unfortunately, in the interim, I have acyuired extensive
responsibilities for committee work on National Institutes of
Health study sections and site review visits, so that I feel that
I could no longer complete the evaluation of this coapound within
a reasonable period of time without neglecting my primary labora-
tory duties. I must withdraw from our agreement, and will return
the samples of Cyclomunin to Dr. Leibowitch.

I very uch regret the inconvenience caused to you and to
Dr. Leibowitch by the delay and by the change in plans. Thank you
for your kind invitation to participate in the evaluation of this
Most interesting compound.
