Many thanks for your most considerate condolence
letter, I really appreciate the time and effort
you took to write.

I hope you will excuse my dictating this, but I
have over five hundred letters to write and my
arm isn't up to it.

I also thank you very much for inviting me to the
meeting and dinner on Monday, October 3. Unfor-
tunately, that same night the Whitehead Institute
is sponsoring its first Symposium in Cambridge and
I'm already scheduled to attend .. . I'm sure you
will understand.
