Dr J.F. Crow [stamped, APR 12 1984] Barbara McClintock mythology Dear Jim What do you make of all these tales? Have you talked to Alec Brink about it? I have trouble perceiving anything that Barbara understood better than Alec and the rest of us at U.W.? She had the acuity to make many novel observations and to analyze them to the measure of the then available methodology. Do you remember "stony silence" at CSH 1951? But no one wants to detract Barbara. We enjoyed your chatty Xmas news. It evoked so much nostalgia -- I wrote a long reply; but I'm not sure I sent it . . . . it may have even been too intimate. You are I hope enjoying your grandchildren in the way we still experience Annie (around 10) and David (19 --, at Harvard) and our best to Ann, Yours, Joshua. Enc: Gould Review
