cD (404) 329-3331 October 27, 1980 Dr. Joshua Lederberg Office of the President The Rockefeller University 1230 York Avenue New York, New York 10021 Dear Dr. Lederberg: I want to thank you for the assistance you have given me concerning the Serratia marcescens used as a biclogical warfare simulant. As you suggested, I contacted Dr. Vosti at Stanford and he recalled seeing the can of cultures labeled "Serratia - San Francisco - Nevin" back in 1977, but he cannot find it now. He recalls your conversation back in 1977 but does not know what has happened to the can with the Serratia cultures. He thinks he may have sent it to someone, but is not really sure; and suggested I write you to see if you might recall anyone who may have wanted the culture. I am not positive we can type the dead organisms, but believe it would be worth the effort. I am hoping you may be able to provide some suggestions as to the location of the missing can. Any information would be most welcome. Best wishes from the Enteric Section. 4 YJ. Farmer III, Ph.D. pferic Section nterobacteriology Branch Bureau of Laboratories P.S.
