6 oO THE ROCKEFELLER UNIVERSITY Rockefeller a University JZ 1230 YORK AVENUE NEW YORK. NY 10021 0 ay vw EX 3+ JOSHUA LEDERBERG July 25, 1979 PRESIDENT Mr. Eli Evans President Charles H. Revson Foundation 444 Madison Avenue New York, New York 10022 Dear Mr. Evans: This is just to acknowledge your letter of July 2. Dave Hamburg has told me about the Revson seminars that he will be organizing at the Institute of Medicine and, in fact, I hope I may be able to assist him in prelimi- nary planning for some of them. I welcome your invitation to stay in touch about biomedical research policy and perhaps we might arrange to meet together again in September or October. Mean- while I am still trying to think through the particular contribution that Rockefeller University might make: I very badly want us to interface policy issues in the evaluation of environmental toxicity but our principle strength is of course in laboratory investigation. Any ideas of your own about potential partners would be most welcome. In fact I have talked to one or two foundation people about the desirability of setting up operating programs, that is, engaging foundation staff to work on the policy analytic side of such issues. I am just not sure whether any existing institutions are appropriate to grapple with them. 4 Yours sincerely, phan Ebadorg gs Joshua Lederberg Enclosure bee: RWN Development Office routing
