Dear Frits,

Can you recall any discussion either (1) by anyone in print, or
(2) in correspondence among us that contrasts the policies of naming
serotypes of

a. Salmonella with binomial epithels
b. Escherichia with coded antigenic formulas,

Somewhere I thought I had seen or written that (a) had the advantage
of encouraging investigators to publish every new combination, at least
when first encountered, so that the literature is more complete,

Besides possible references, would you tell me your views. Is this
latter point correct? And if so, is it a particular advantage; or does
it just clutter up the literature?
