Dear Mir. Lederberg:

It is a pleasure to inform you *hat the Board of Managers of
this Fund has reappointed you a Fellow of The Jane Coffin Childs Memorial
Fund for Medical Research for the period beginning September 7, 1947, and
ending June 30, 1946, with assignment to the Department of Zoology,
Columbia University. It is understood by the Board that during your
fellowship period you will be continuing your medical studies at the
College of Physicians and Surgeons and devoting as much time as is
consistent with your responsibilities as a medical student to the research
program with Dr. Ryan which you outlined for us. Imclosed you will find
a copy of my letter of June 16 notifying President Fackenthal of the
appointment and of the grant for research expenses. Will you please read
the letter of notification carefully and let me know whether the fellowship
is acceptable to you under the stated terms and conditions. A copy of our
reprint policy is enclosed.
