INSTITUT de CARDIOLOGIE de MONTREAL 5415, Boul. de l'Assomption Tél. ; 254-8341 Montréal 36 December 24, 1964. VEC 78 I96, Doctor Michael DeBakey, é Baylor Medical School, Baylor University, HOUSTON, TEXAS, U.S.A. Dear Doctor DeBakey: I read Time Magazine on December 18, and discovered that you were Chairman of a commission dealing with medical problems. It was a great pleasure to meet you in Santiago last October and I hope that you will have some free moments during the Christmas and New Year Holidays. I am very interested in the report of your commission and I would appreciate to know where and if I could have a reprint. I would like to know the definition, the privileges and administrative structures of what your commission called "high-powered regional centers". We are now completing a new building in Montreal called the Montreal Heart Ins- titute for treatment, teaching and research. , This center is autonomous, having its own administration. It is not connected to any general hospital but is affiliated to the medical school of the University of Montreal. I wonder if such an Institute is within the scope of your definition of the cardiac center. I am very impressed by the summary of your report as given by Time Magazine and I would enjoy of having the privilege of reading it in its original form. I am sorry to bother you. I hope to have the pleasure of meeting you again in the near future. Please receive and transmit to your wife and family my very best wishes for an Happy New Year.
