My dear Miss Sabin,
I cannot deny myself the pleasure of writing to you to say how greatly pleased I was this morning to read of your election to the National Academy. Dozens of people are writing to you, I have no doubt, and some of them will say how fine it is that such an honor should have come to a woman. My pleasure is derived from the fact that the honor is given to Miss Sabin and to her work--for both I have the highest admiration & (I hesitate to use the word) reverence.
