September 24, 1942 Dear Warren: On arriving in Pasadena I have found things moving along satisfactorily. Unfortunately, on my second day here I came down with a severe cold, from which I am just recovering. My experience is that Southern California is the best place in the country to catch colds in -- although I may have caught this cold on the train, and just waited for a day or two before succumbing to it. My wife and I should be pleased to have you stay at our house with us while you are in Pasadena next month. Please let me know if you can accept this invitation, and tell me when you will arrive. Sincerely yours, Linus Pauling
