August 20, 1974 Dear Janet: Thank you for the pre-prints and reprints. In regard to the stability of deletion mutants, this varies a good deal. Ching-Ju has recloned starting with DNA recovered from agarose, and I have re-cloned some by diluting plaque suspensions. Where there is generation of other "short genomes" (as in the HinA deletion), they are longer than the original deleted DNA, but we don't yet know if they have duplications or something else. With best regards, Sincerely, Daniel Nathans
