STANFORD MEDICAL CENTER Palo Alto-—Stanford Hospitals A new era in medicine for residents of the San Francisco Peninsula will begin with the starting of construction on the com- bined Palo Alto~Stanford Hospital in May 1957. A detailed scale model is shown below. The new Medical Center, one of the largest medical con- struction programs undertaken in the United States, will have an initial cost of $20,000,000. Included in the program, aside from the hospital, is a Rehabilitation Center and several Medical School Buildings, Completion should be in mid-year 1959, Governor's. Square Buildings shown in the scale model are (1) Palo Alto Nursing Pavilion; (2) Hospital "Core" - surgeries, delivery suite, clinical laboratories, pediatric beds, general services, administration; (3) Stanford Nursing Pavilion; (4) Stanford Clinic (outpatients), clinical departments' offices and laboratories; (5) Teaching laboratories, classrooms, basic science laboratories; (6) Library, basic science laboratories; (7) Stanford Rehabilitation Center, basic science laboratories.
