27th February 1957 Dear Miss Franklin, As I have never worked with the Ribgrass strain of tobacco mosaic virus, I am not quite sure what tests I can make to identify your specimen with certainty. However, I will do enough tests at least to show whether or not it could be the type strain. Did you ever make any measurements on the strain from leguminous plants that I sent you some months ago? We have not yet started any work with potato virus X, but when we do have a purified preparation I will send you some. Yours sincerely, F.C. Bawden
