10th October, 1974 Dear Linus, I am very touched that you should ask me to become an Associate of the Institute. I would like to accept but there is one snag. About 18 months ago I gave up all travelling (except for very short distances for holidays) mainly because I find it so difficult to cope with the time-shift, especially in travelling to California. If I stick to the rule I will not be able to visit the Institute. If this is no objection to being an Associate I should be delighted to become one. On the other hand, if you feel this is too much of an impediment I shall quite understand. It was a great delight seeing you at Peter's wedding. Even though I am not travelling I hope we shall have the opportunity of meeting again on this side of the Atlantic before too long. Yours sincerely, F. H. C. Crick
