In my limited encounters with Stanley, I never thought he had much of an intuition for the biological or genetic. Perhaps that's why he was undaunted by the idea of "crystalizing life." In like vein, as he later admitted, he was very critical of Avery and doubtless played a critical role in Avery not being recognized by the Nobel Prize Committee. (nor CA Knight!) JL P.S.
