Dear Dr. Lederberg:
A letter dated September 24 from Bob Glaser states that you will welcome a photography of Fess Avery on his weekend of Truimph.  It is being sent you by air mail this afternoon.  Should you ever want the story behind this snapshot, I can also supply. If one were seeking a title for this picture, it might be called "The laying on of hands."
Throughout my years of communion with this extraordinarily selfless person, I had just one regret.  It was the failure of the men in Stockholm to understand the incalculable worth of Fess.  My only consolation after his death was the tardy Nobel award to Beadle, Tatum and Lederberg.
