Maryland Man is Named to Silver Anniversary All-America
Biochemist is Among Past Collegiate Gridders Honored By Sports Illustrated
New York, Dec. 4 -- Dr. Christian B. Anfinsen, Jr., internationally eminent biochemist of Bethesda, Maryland, has been named to the Sports Illustrated Silver Anniversary All-America for 1961.  Among the 26 men to make this year's roster are Green Bay Packers Coach Vince Lombardi and Oklahoma University's Bud Wilkinson, as well as important business executives, educators, government and military leaders, surgeons and a Congress.
The winners in this unique All-America are selected by ballot among a panel of distinguished judges which this year included U.S. Attorney General Robert F. 
Kennedy and former Vice President Richard Nixon.  Sixty colleges and universities offered candidates for the honor roll of 1961 -- ex-gridders who played their last collegiate games in 1936.  The criteria were the quality of the candidates' records in their professions and their general effectiveness during the intervening 25 years since they played college football. This year Lombardi and Wilkinson are the only winners who pursued sports as a profession. Dr. Anfinsen was nominated by his alma mater, Swarthmore College.
The stories of the 25 winners will be told in the December 11th issue of Sports Illustrated.  They will receive their trophies -- in the shape of silver goal posts -- at the National Football Hall of Fame Dinner in New York on December 5, where President Kennedy is scheduled to be the keynote speaker. President Kennedy -- then Senator Kennedy -- was himself a judge for Sports Illustrated in the Silver Anniversary Awards of 1957.
