BY-LAWS. I. The Suffolk District Medical So- ciety consists of all the members of the Massa- chusetts Medical Society who reside within the Suffolk District. II. Each member shall be assessed annually, in the month of January, the sum of three dollars; from which shall be paid the annual assessment to the Massachusetts Medical Society. III. There shall be three stated meetings an- nually. The first, which shall be the annual meeting, shall be held on the first Wednesday in April of each year; the second meeting shall be on the third Wednesday in September; and the third meeting, on the third Wednesday of the following January. 4 IV. Special meetings may be called by the President, on the written application of seven members. V. Social meetings, and meetings for medical improvement, shall be held as frequently as the Society shall from time to time determine. VI. Notice of stated and special meetings shall be given by the Secretary, by a printed notice sent to each member. VII. At the annual meeting, there shall be chosen, by ballot, a President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Librarian, and two mem- bers, who, together with the foregoing officers, shall act as a Committee of Supervision; and, at the same meeting, five Censors, and also Coun- sellors, shall be chosen for the Massachusetts Medical Society for the subsequent year. THE OFFICERS. VIII. The President, Vice-President, and Li- brarian, shall perform the duties usually devolving f) upon such officers, and such other duties as shall be assigned to them. IX. In case of the absence of the President and Vice-President from any meeting, a chairman shall be chosen to preside at the meeting. XHE SECRETARY. X. The Secretary shall attend, and keep a record of, all the meetings. He shall keep one book of records of the stated and special meet- ings, and another record of the transactions at the meetings appointed for medical communica- tion. He shall also have in his custody a copy of the by-laws of the Massachusetts Medical Society, for the signature of those becoming members of that Society. At each stated meet- ing, he shall announce the names of all who have in any way become members of this Society since the previous stated meeting; and shall perform such other duties as may be assigned to him. 1* 6 THE TREASURER. XI. The Treasurer shall collect the assess- ments, and shall pay all expenses of the Society, on the approval of the bills by the President; and shall in general have the charge of the fiscal concerns of the Society. XII. The records and accounts of the Secretary and Treasurer shall be subject to examination by the Society when they judge proper. COMMITTEE OF SUPERVISION. XIII. The Committee of Supervision shall have a general superintendence of all the affairs of the Society. XIV. No discussion or vote touching the char- acter of any member, or involving the expendi- ture of the funds, shall be allowed at any other than at a stated or special meeting. No by-law shall be altered, amended, or repealed, nor any 7 additional by-law adopted, at any meeting, un- less the proposed alteration or amendment has first been brought before the Society at a stated meeting, to be acted upon at a subsequent stated meeting. k MEMBERS.
