/^BOUT lonics AND GREENEVILLE, TENN. Brown Mfg Co., NEIW YORK RAMONS Tonic Regulator. MHE LIVER is the largest and most important organ of the human body . Its great importance lies in the fact that upon it, and upon it alone, depends the purity of the blood. ' If your blood were always pure arid rich, every Organ of your body would always be perfectly healthy. You would never be sick. No disease could attack you. There would be no point where it could gain an entrance. But the moment your blood gets out of order every organ suffers. The stomach and digestive organs are seriously injured, the heart becomes enfeebled and diseased and the nervous system is disordered. Both body and mind are seriously affected. The gates of the citadel of life are thrown wide open, and diseases of every description find easy entrance. If all our food, our habits, our modes of life were what they should* be, if we ate and drank only what is wholesome, rested as much as we ought and exercised enough, the liver would rarely get out of order and need no assistance. But, unfortunately, many of our staple articles of food are hurtful to the liver-, and, in the hurly-burly rush of 20th century existence, we work and worry too much, rest too little, and of proper exercise take none at all. Consequently nine-tenths of our people suffer to some extent from liver troubles and their consequences. Many of these consequences, strange as it may seem, are due the prevalent unreasonable and improper methods of treating liver complaints. The function ofihe liver, as has been explained, is to purify the blood. It does this by extracting every impure and harmful element from the blood. These impurities are called bile. The liver separates the bile from the blood and carries it to the intesti- nal canal, and the pure blood goes on to the heart and through the system. But when, from any cause, the liver becomes sluggish or overworked, it fails to discharge the bile into the intestines. Very soon it becomes completely filled with bile and overflows. When it overflows, the bile goes into-the blood, where it has all the effect of a virulent poison. The result is called biliousness. Biliousness is alm®st always accompanied by constipation. That Is because bile is Nature’s own cathartic. When the bile stops flowing into the intestines, constipation naturally ensues. It Is perfectly evident that what is needed at such times is a medicine that will arouse the liver enough so that it will discharge the accu- mulated bile into the intestines. When it has done this, the bile* being,a ‘athartic, will itself loosen the bowels. Instead of taking a medicine that will slightly stir the liver, the common course is to take a drastic, violent cathartic—strong pills or purgative med- icines. Such medicines excite and over-stimulate the liver, sub- ject the patient to severe, griping pains, injure the delicate coating of his digestive organs and leave him in a weakened condition. The liver paiticularly is left in a very bad condition. When the reaction from its condition of excitation comes, it is in a languid and exhausted state, totally unfit to perform its allotted duties. As a result, the patient soon finds himself back in a state of bil- iousness and costiveness. If he again and again resorts to drastic purgatives, he will sooner or later ruin his liver and digestive organs and shatter his whole system. Yet this is what thousands upon thousands are doing every dayo Of all the many “liver cures” on the market, there is one which is based upon scientific principles—one that is calculated to gently assist Nature in doing her work. That medicine is RAMON’S TONIC REGULATOR. Any competent medical authoiity will tell you that the only, really valuable medicine is that which touches the cause of the diseases, and arousv-s the organs affected just enough to enable them to resume their active work. As- soon as they do so, the curative methods which Nature has. supplied will begin to operate and complete the work more thoroughly than any medicine com- pounded by man could possibly do. " It was with a full and intelli- gent appreciation of this fact that Ramon’s TONIC REGULATOR was compounded. It acts directly upon the liver, and stirs it suf- ficiently to enable it 10 resume its usual work. It contains ingre- dients which act upon the kidneys, which are often affected with • the liver, and often the seat of the real difficulty instead of the liver. It contains blood and nerve foods, making new, rich blood and strengthening and upbuilding the entire nervous system. It reaches and benefits every vital organ. It gives each just the needed assistance. It sets all to working in perfect harmony, which means perfect health, physical and mental vigor and virili- ty, a perfect digestion, clear, smooth skin, a bright eye and rosyj cheeks. It has hosts of enthusiastic friends in every part of the country. In every State there are scores of men and women'’ whom it has permanently cured. It found them suffering not 1 only from their original diseases, out from the additional results f of continued dosing of the drastic, violent purgative pills and “cures” which they had been taught to believe would cure them if anything could. It found them prematurely old, anemic, nerve- | shattered, emaciated, sallow and slaves to a wrecked liver and t wrecked stomach—shattered and all but hopeless. • It left them full-blooded, strong, hearty, clear-eyed and buoy- i ant, with the appetite and digestion of, a boy—as vigorous I and as capable of all the enjoyments of ife as they ever wereT****^'!' Demons Pepsin Chill Tonic, TASTELESS AND GUARANTEED. 1/! ALARIA is caused by a minute parasite in tne blood. This w ✓ parasite gets into the blood, where it multiplies with astonishing rapidity, ft attacks and destroys the red corpuscles— the vital principle of the blood—the very citadel of life. The symptoms and characteristics of malaria and chills and fever and the almost intolerable suffering they entail are too well known to require description here. The only drug that will de- stroy the malarial parasite in the blood is quinine. But the ordi- nary sulphate of quinine is decidedly injurious. It often leaves the patient in a worse condition than he was before he took it. It has cured his malaria, but it has all but wrecked his health and . impaired his entire system. Quinine is very injurious to even the strongest stomach. It impairs the digestion, and, if taken con- tinuously, leaves the patient a confirmed dyspeptic. It injures the hearing. Instances have come under our notice where whole families have been made deaf by the use of sulphate of quinine. A drug that would kill the malarial parasite, but be free from the harmful qualities of sulphate of quinine has long been sought by medical scientists. Only one effort has been successful. • Its re- sult is embodied in RAMON’S PEPSIN CHILL TONIC. This remedy contains not an atom of sulphate of quinine. Yet it contains the essential element of quinine—the element that destroys the ma- larial parasite. It is made from cinchona bark, as quinine is. But it is in a new form which retains all the necessary principles of the bark, without the injurious properties. , It drives malaria from the blood and from the system—quick- ly and effectually. But it will not impair the most delicate stom- ach, nor will it have any effect on the hearing, no matter how freely or how long it may be taken. Ramon’s Pepsin Chill Tonic is something more than a malarial killer. It contains pure iron, which enriches and puri- fies the blood and tones and builds up the entire system. It con- 4 « tains pure, soSufel® P«psin, the great digestive agent. Every dose of the ChlSI Tonic you take contains enough pepsin to digest it. it is therefor© & remedy which neither injures the stomach nor puts any additional tax upon it. - The remedy Is in the form of a lemon syrup, easy and pleas- ant to take. It has nc quinine taste. The preparation of cin- chona bark used is tasteless. It is an agreeable medicine that will do all that sulphate of quinine can do and has none of its ill effects, and at the same time makes new, rich blood and strength- ens and tones up-'the entire system, , We want to make it emphatic that RaMOFTS PEPSIN *CHILL . TONIC will do all we claim. Its record up to date warrants us in making assertions that seem over-strong,. It is a fact that ever since it was placed on the market its average of failures to effect a full cure has been only one case out of a thousand! Hence, when we make the positive and unqualified assertion that it will absolutely cure you, there are 999 chances out of a thousand that we are right* So sure are we that this great medicine will cure, that we sell it under an absolute, iron-clad guarantee. If you suffer from malaria in any form, and give the Chill Tonic a reasonable trial, your money will ta cheerfully refunded if it fails to cure you. We think this guarantee proves more conclusively than volumes" of argument how strong is our faith in the efficiency of the medicine. To every frdta malaria we say:, Stoptakinr Jnine; it is an injurious and'dangerous drug. Take the only remedy that will cure malaria and at the same time have a high and beneficial effect upon the whole system With each bottle of the Chill Tonic we give three Ramon’s Tonic Liver Fills. These should be taken as directed. They, arouse the liver and put it in a healthy condition. It is through a torpid liver and reacting deranged stomach and bad blood that malaria finds its way into the system. Those who keep them- selves in proper condition by the use or Ramon’s Tonic Liver Pills rarely suffer from malaria at all, even in the most malarial districts. The Chill Ttiita' costs 50 cents a bottle. It can be bought of all druggists or direct from us. BKOWJi 00., Maw Xojul Mjfja mnMtiUtua, Swkimxi. 5 obstipation ai>(iT3illoiisi*ess. V M HE most common ills from which humanity suffers are bilious- w ness and constipation. They are common to youth and old - age. They attack, for no apparent reason, people of the soundest constitution and in otherwise perfect physical condition. Few en- tirely escape. The amount of suffering they entail is enormous. The danger which attends their frequent recurrence could hardly be over-estimated. Each attack leaves the sufferer in increased 4 danger of more frequent and more severe attacks, to say nothing of opening the way to a long train of more distressing and danger- ous maladies, which are more than likely to permanently wreck his health and endanger his life. Common as these diseases are, their usual treatment is sadly improper and inefficient. The sufferer has been taught to believe that what he needs at such times is a vigorous cathartic. He takes the ordinary cathartic pills or other remedies of a violent purgative character. While it is perhaps true that these old-fashioned remedies pro- duce what seems to be the effect intended as a matter of fact they are extremely injurious. They are very painful in their operation; they unduly excite and over-stimulate the liver; they irritate the stom- ach and bowels and badly derange the entire digestive organs and functions; they leave the patient in danger of an immediate return of the constipated condition—worse than ever before. These vio- lent purgings and constantly recurring attacks of constipation will in time shatter the system and wreck the strongest constitution. If the nature and function of the liver and the causes of con- stipation and biliousness were more thoroughly understood people would emphatically refuse to run the risks which harsh and vio- lent treatment entails. i The function of the liver is that, of a blood cleanser. It sep- arates the pure, healthy blood from all injurious matter and carries the latter to the intestines in the form of what is known as bile. So long as your liver is active your blood is pure, your bowels regular, and you will enjoy perfect health. But when you over- ’ eat, indulge in improper food, or neglect to take proper care of yourself, fail to exercise or are over-worked or worried, the liver becomes over-worked, sluggish or diseased, and fails to perform its work. It fails to carry the bile to the intestines—becomes filled with it-—and overflows. Then this poisonous, bilious roajt* 1 ter, which should have been secreted by the liver and carried to the intestines, is absorbed, carried through the main thoracic duct and thence along the spinal column, where it is diffused in the blood. Thus the very injurious, deadly matter which all the pro- cesses of nature endeavor to prevent from defilii g and poisoning the blood are introduced into it, and carried all through the system. The result is biliousness with consequent constipation, which if not speedily cured are followed by headache, dyspepsia, gener- al debility, dizziness, loss of appetite, nervousness, backache, piles, loss of energy, despondency, and, in course of time, by permanent disease of the liver, heart and other vital organs. The reason biliousness and constipation occur together is this: The bile is nature’s own purgative. When the liver secretes it and carries it to the intestines in the natural way, it does much toward keeping the bowels active and diminishes the tendency to constipation. But when the liver does not act. properly and the bile goes to the blood, constipation is almost certain to put in an immediate appearance. We have explained the cause of biliousness and constipation in this lengthy manner in order to place the reader in a position to understand clearly the manner in which the proper remedy should act, ‘and thus realize the absolute correctness of our claim that there is but one medicine v/hose processes are based upon proper scientific principles—RAMON’S LIVER PILLS AND TONIC PELLETS. RAMON’S LIVER PILLS are not a purgative, griping pill, 1 hey do not act on the bowels; they act on the liver and the liver only; they merely touch and stir the liver to action. Nature does the rest. When the liver is aroused, it at once releases and carries to the intestines the accumulation of bile, and the bile acts as a nat- ural and healthful purgative. If you were very bilious—if there was a large amount of biie accumulated, the action of the bowels will be free. If you were but slightly bilious, the action will be mild. If you were not at all bilious, you will scarcely know you have taken the pill at all! In any event, there will be no violent griping and purging, no over-excitement of the liver, no irritation of the delicate tissues of the digestive organs, no danger of a reac- tion to former painful and dangerous conditions. The liver has been cleansed and at once proceeds with its allotted task of puri- fying and enriching the blood. The bowels have been . restored to their normal condition without strain or injury. All the natural processes will then go on in a healthy, natural way. And this happy result has been attained without any wrench- ing, griping, racking, purging or other violent methods, but by 7 simply giving Nature the slight assistance she needed in order to do the work in her own way! That is all Nature ever needs. The highest medical authorities agree that the only medicine which can be used with propriety and safety are those which sim- ply open the way for Nature to effect the cure by the exercise of her own functions. Ramon’s Liver Pills and Tonic Pellets are the only liver or laxative pills made which conform to this recognized scientific principle. This famous remedy is two medi- cines—or, rather, two medicines in one box. The LIVER PILLS are a small pink pill, which act in the manner described. The TONIC Pellets are a tonic-laxative. They are extremely mild. Their purpose is to tone up the stomach and bowels and to insure the regularity of the latter. They follow up the work of the LIVER pill, and assist both the liver and bowels in perform- ing the work properly until they are in a perfectly healthy, normal, vigorous condition. directions.—For biliousness, take one PINK PILL on going to bed, and in nine cases out of ten the effect will be magical. If, however, the effect should not be as thorough as desired, take a TONIC Pellet the second night and if necessary another Pink PILL the third night, after which take one of the little BROWN TONIC Pellets each night till a healthy action of the liver and bowels is secured. If after a week or two bilious symptoms again appear, take another PINK PILL and follow with the TONIC PEL- LETS In most cases of constipation it is best to follow about the same course as in biliousness, beginning with one Pink Pill at night and following with the Tonic Pellets. If, however, it is only slight, as is most frequently the case withffraveling men, a Tonic Pellet the first night, followed by two (if necessary) the second night and then one nightly for a week or more, will re- move the cause and restore a healthy action of the bowels. The main object is to free the bowels of all constipated fecal matter and then induce a free, healthy action daily by the tonic-laxative action of the Pellets. When using Ramon’s Tonic Pellets drink a large glass of water (hot is the better) half hour before breakfast and on going to bed. It softens the contents of the bowels and greatly aids the action of the Pellets. Ramon’s Liver Pills and Tonic Pellets are put.up in two styles. The flat box contains 10 Pink Liver Pills and 15 Brown Tonic Pellets. The long box contains 25 of the Pink Liver Pills only. The price is 25 cents, either style. They can be obtained of all dealers or direct from us. It is in many respects dif ferent from all other sarsaparillas or so-called “spring medicines.” It contains in.a concentrated form Sarsaparilla, Stillingia, Yellow Dock, Mandrake, Sassafras and other well known and highly prized roots and herbs. It is purely vegetable, containing no chemicals whatever. It not only purifies the blood, as ordinary sarsaparillas do, but acts as a general tonic to theo entire system. It makes bone and muscle as well as pure blood. It does more than this. * It contains ingredients which act gently upon the liver and is a laxative for the bowels. Thus, as you can see, it is really many medicines in one. There are many “spring medicines” which have a tendency to constipate or which do not have a beneficial effect on all the organs of the body. Ramon’s Tonic Sarsaparilla is an altogether different medicine. But there is no one Sarsaparilla that combines more and bet- ter remedies than Ramon’s Tonic Sarsaparilla. While the sarsaparilla it contains is performing its duty in at- tending to the blood, the other ingredients are taking care of •very organ and function of the body. After taking a course of this medicine you will not only find that your blood is in a perfect state, but that you are strengthened, toned up and brought into a condition of perfect health and vigor.
